 Tiziana Domínguez marries Juan Verde
Deputy assistant secretary for commerce in the Obama administrationa

Tiziana Domínguez, the youngest daughter of designer Adolfo Domínguez, married Juan Verde, the deputy assistant secretary for commerce in Barack Obama’s government. The wedding took place in the gardens of the Pazo de Oca country estate in A Estrada (Pontevedra) with 190 guests, including the president of the Regional Government of Galicia, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as well as three deputy ministers, numerous secretaries of state and advisers to the Whitehouse. Also present were many of Tiziana’s friends, who had travelled from all four corners of the world.

The bride entered accompanied by her father, wearing a dress she had designed herself, made of silk tulle with pieces of guipure lace sewn on by hand along the body, fitted at the hips and with a flared train. Guipure flower petals surrounded the body in an asymmetrical fashion, leaving the back bare. Tiziana accompanied her dress with a bunch of white peonies and aquamarine and diamond earrings, a present from her father.

Adolfo Domínguez, faithful to his style, wore a linen morning coat, while his wife, Elena González, was resplendent in a blue halter-neck dress in silk chiffon. The groom, Juan Verde, wore a classic morning coat and cufflinks which were a gift from President Obama. His mother and matron of honour, Dolores Suárez, opted for a fuchsia-coloured design with matching accessories.

The ceremony took place in the open air, on a hill with views over the gardens of the country house. The bride and groom, sitting on original straw bales covered in linen cloth, listened to the speeches by a number of the guests, including Adolfo Domínguez and Dolores Suárez, matron of honour and mother of Juan Verde, as well as numerous friends of the couple. The most emotional part came at the end of the ceremony, when Juan spoke some beautiful words to his wife Tiziana, who he surprised by reading out a bolero.

Following the ceremony, the couple moved over to the entrance to the country estate, followed by their guests, who gave them an ovation and rained petals down upon them. There, they were awaited by the Royal Bagpipe Band of the Regional Council of Ourense, who formed two lines and, as the bride and groom walked between them, played the March of the Ancient Kingdom of Galicia, followed by the Hymn of Galicia. In addition, the Royal Bagpipe Band had a special detail for the newly-weds, to whom they dedicated a Galician muiñeira composed especially for the occasion.

Subsequently, the bride and groom and their guests enjoyed an aperitif and dinner in the gardens, specially decorated for the occasion, with live musicians and the famous Galician queimada (a punch which is set alight) which was prepared while a traditional spell was chanted to confer special powers to those who drank it.
